We’ve just returned from ten days in Perú, four of which were spent hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. I’ll post some pics to Flickr eventually, although the extremely strenuous nature of the activity wasn’t all that conducive to photography; for the most part it was all I could do to breathe. Still: llamas.
In the sunny courtyard of our lovely guest-house in Cusco, I read Theo Padnos’s account of being kidnapped and tortured in Syria. While away, I also devoured Roxane Gay’s An Untamed State and Joan London’s incredibly poignant novel The Golden Age:
And the peculiar custom of being invited into a bedroom to lay your hat and coat across the sagging marriage bed!
And, somewhere up an Andean mountain, I started A Short Walk in the Hindu Kush, which I suspect will be the beginning of an Eric Newby binge.
Holidays! More please.
